Losen World Literature 2010-2011

Make sure that you bring your Literature & Composition books to class on Monday/Tuesday. I have reserved those two days for review.

Monday/Tuesday:

We will spend the entire period reviewing chapters 1-3 in your Literature & Composition books. I even made crossword puzzles--one for "Agamemnon" and the other for literary terms. We will probably work in small groups and then go over it together.

Homework: Study for unit test. Remember, you do not have to know every single piece of literature read in your textbook. I may include portions of these, however, and ask you to identify things like alliteration, enjambment, assonance, etc.

Wednesday/Thursday

Unit test. When finished, begin your vocabulary homework. I will also create a vocabulary crossword puzzle that you can work on for studying purposes. Also, do the review unit. That will be due on Friday. For review units, skip "Vocabulary for Comprehension" and "Grammar in Context." We will always skip those. Make sure that you do everything else, including "Building with Classical Roots," because I include those on my tests.

Friday:
I will check your vocabulary homework. Remember, you must come with it completed and with your name on the book. Bring your crossword puzzles and if you have not started them, we can do these in class.

Homework: study for the test.

Monday/Tuesday:

You should have your Literature & Language books. We will start with "Agamemnon." I brought in more costume stuff. Then we will review chapter two, perhaps going over some of the works in the text. Expect a test of chapters 1-3 next Wednesday/Thursday (September 29/30). Material will include "Agamemnon." I have not yet gotten around to putting up the notes from "Agamemnon" yet, but hope to do so this week.

Make sure that you bring your Literature & Language books to class, along with your vocabulary books on Wednesday/Thursday. For homework, read part of chapter three of Literature & Language (pp.59-top of p. 72, stopping just before the activity. Do not worry about any activities).

Wednesday/Thursday:

Finish "Agamemnon." Go over chapter three of Literature & Language. Go over vocabulary  Chapter Three.

Homework: Complete Chapter three of your vocabulary books.

Friday: Check vocabulary. Review. Review elements in Literature & Language.  For homework: Finish Chapter Three. Study for next week's test. Continue to look under "Losennotes" for information and clues. Also, since we will be finishing a unit in the vocabulary book, expect a vocabulary test in the middle of the following week, on October 3/4.

Welcome back. This week's agenda is subject to some change, because of events that I will explain in class. This is what I plan to do for now:

Tuesday/Wednesday:
Introductions. The syllabus will be handed out. You will get two copies--one to keep in your notebook, the other to get signed by your parent. That syllabus should also be signed by you.  Turn the signed copy back into me and you will get your first homework assignment grade--100.
We will go over the syllabus in class.

Turn in your summer assignments. There may be time to discuss them.

Second period: You will also receive forms that need to be turned in on Thursday.

All periods: We will go over fire drill procedures for this room.

Next, you will fill out a form with your personal and school information on it. You will receive your vocabulary books. Circle the part on the form that says "yes" for your vocabulary book.  I probably will not distribute text books until next week when I know that I will be in school all week (unless something drastically unforeseen occurs).

In class, you will read the background to the play, "Agamemnon."  If possible you may take parts and act in part of the play.

Homework: Complete Chapter One in your vocabulary books. You can expect to have such exercises due every Friday, and counted as a homework grade. You do not have to do the exercises "Vocabulary in Context."   For my even classes, your vocabulary exercises will be due on Thursday this time, due to the the four-day schedule.

Friday:  Completion of vocabulary exercises will be checked. Next, we will go over the exercises aloud so that you can check your work.

After that, we will continue with the play, "Agamemnon."

No homework this first weekend.
